Data Governance Manager
5Y are looking for a Data Governance Manager who will be responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive data governance framework that ensures data quality, ownership, security, and compliance across the organisation.
This role requires hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview for data governance automation and integration, as well as a deep understanding of GDPR and other relevant regulatory standards. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including IT, compliance, and data management, to ensure that data assets are properly governed, secure, and compliant with industry regulations.
Your Key Responsibilities:
Governance Framework Design
- Develop and lead the implementation of a comprehensive data governance framework that outlines policies and procedures for data quality, ownership, security, and compliance.
- Ensure the governance framework is integrated with Microsoft Purview to enable automated management of data across the organisation.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to define data governance goals and priorities in alignment with organisational objectives.
Data Quality Standards
- Define and implement a data quality framework that ensures the consistency, accuracy, and integrity of data across all departments.
- Establish metrics and KPIs for monitoring data quality and create mechanisms to maintain and improve data quality over time.
Data Discovery & Inventory
- Lead data discovery sessions to map out the organisation’s data landscape and catalog data assets.
- Leverage Microsoft Purview to set up automatic discovery and cataloging of data assets across the enterprise, ensuring continuous updates to the data inventory.
Security and Compliance Framework
- Work closely with the CISO and other relevant teams to establish a security and compliance framework within the data governance structure, ensuring alignment with regulations such as GDPR and industry standards.
- Configure Purview to support compliance with data privacy laws, setting up alerts, controls, and reporting mechanisms to manage risk.
Microsoft Purview Deployment & Configuration
- Lead the deployment and configuration of Microsoft Purview, ensuring it is fully integrated with the data governance framework for managing data discovery, classification, lineage, and compliance.
- Configure Purview for:
- Data Discovery: Set up automated discovery of data assets.
- Data Lineage and Classification: Implement tracking and classification of data based on sensitivity and business relevance.
- Compliance and Security: Set up privacy and security controls, alerts, and reporting mechanisms to support GDPR and other compliance initiatives.
- Custom Policies and Automation: Create governance policies and automate workflows, including access controls, data retention, and ownership.
Data Audits & Migration Support
- Conduct data audits to assess data quality and security, ensuring data is ready for migration to new systems.
- Support data migration efforts by conducting targeted data audits, focusing on data readiness and compliance with governance standards.
Transformation Planning
- Develop and manage plans for data migration and transformation processes, ensuring smooth transitions from legacy systems to new platforms.
- Ensure governance frameworks are upheld throughout transformation projects, safeguarding data quality and security.
Training & Knowledge Transfer
- Organise and conduct training sessions to ensure key stakeholders and data stewards understand the new governance standards and can effectively implement them.
- Ensure smooth transition and knowledge transfer as part of the Purview deployment and overall governance strategy.
Monitoring and Reporting
- Set up dashboards and reports using Microsoft Purview to provide ongoing monitoring of data governance activities.
- Provide regular progress reports to senior leadership on the development of the data governance framework and the success of Purview deployment.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Facilitate regular meetings with stakeholders (e.g., data owners, IT, legal, compliance) to ensure alignment on governance objectives.
- Act as a central point of contact for any issues or questions related to data governance and the Purview deployment.
Required skills and Qualifications:
- Experience with Microsoft Purview: Proven experience in deploying and configuring Microsoft Purview for data discovery, classification, lineage, and compliance management.
- GDPR Expertise: Strong understanding and practical experience with GDPR regulations, including data privacy, security, and compliance.
- Data Governance Expertise: Experience in developing and implementing comprehensive data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures.
- Data Quality Management: Deep understanding of data quality principles, including data consistency, accuracy, integrity, and completeness.
- Security and Compliance: Experience working with security frameworks and regulatory compliance, especially in the context of data governance and management.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with data management tools, cloud platforms, and enterprise systems (Azure, SQL, etc.) in addition to Microsoft Purview.
- Project Management: Ability to manage multiple data governance projects, from planning to execution, while aligning with organisational goals.
- Training and Knowledge Transfer: Experience in conducting training sessions and knowledge transfer initiatives for various stakeholders.
- Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders across the organisation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications in data governance (e.g., CDMP), GDPR, or relevant data management platforms.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure for data management and governance.
- Background in data migration projects and experience in handling large-scale data transformations.

- Successful design and implementation of a data governance framework.
- Effective integration of Microsoft Purview into governance processes, with automated data discovery and classification.
- Compliance with GDPR and other regulatory requirements.
- Improvement in data quality metrics, as tracked through data audits.
- Successful data migration and transformation efforts with minimal disruption.
- Completion of training sessions and effective knowledge transfer across teams.
